What does a general surgeon do?

A general surgeon operates on you to treat your injury or illness. They can operate on many areas of your body, including the stomach, liver, intestines, appendix, breasts, gallbladder, hernias, spider veins and the skin. A general surgeon is also capable of performing specialized diagnostic studies to screen for cancer. Both upper and lower endoscopy, including screening colonoscopy, can be performed by a general surgeon. Your general surgeon will give you a diagnosis and provide you with your preoperative, operative and postoperative care. You can relax knowing that your general surgeon will be at your side every step of the way.
