CKMC 2007 Golf Classic a Resounding Success « Back to News
Volunteers, sponsors and donors teamed up recently to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the Heartland Cancer Center. Proceeds from the 3rd Annual Central Kansas Medical Center Golf Classic came to $57,291.14.

The Heartland Cancer Center is part of the CKMC family. The funds collected have been deposited in the HCC Patient Care Fund for patients without insurance or whose insurance benefits have been depleted and have documented financial hardship.

"Once again, our Golf Classic was a resounding success," said Mark Mingenback, executive director of the CKMC Foundation. "This community showed an amazing outpouring of support for our local cancer patients."

The golf tournament, which consisted of 144 players on Oct. 1, followed the Sept. 30 silent and live auctions. More than $24,000 was raised during the auctions where participants bid on items including the Barton County Community College ABLE course at Camp Aldrich, a trip to Winter Park, Co., a Loretta Miller sculpting class, hand-carved duck decoys by Roger Murphy and round-trip tickets from the Great Bend Airport to Kansas City or Denver.

"These are just a few examples of the items local entities and individuals generously donated to the auctions," Mingenback said. "These donors, sponsors, golfers and many others understand the importance of raising money for Heartland Cancer Center patients and want to do their part.

"Our goal with this Golf Classic is to help alleviate some of the financial burden on families," Mingenback added. "We hope everyone involved realizes their contributions will directly help their neighbors who are facing difficult challenges."

Jettie Zoller, CKMC director of marketing and communications, noted all the golf and auction volunteers should be commended. "These events entail months of planning and organization," Zoller said. "We simply couldn't do it without CKMC volunteers and others throughout the community. They should be gratified that their efforts help ease some of the financial strain on families whose loved ones are receiving services from the compassionate professionals at Heartland Cancer Center."

The 4th Annual CKMC Golf Classic is set for Oct. 5-6, 2008. Anyone interested in contributing to the HCC Patient Care Fund is encouraged to contact Mingenback, 620-786-6136, or send a donation to the HCC in care of the CKMC Foundation, 3515 Broadway, Great Bend, Ks. 67530.
