BOCK sponsors 11th annual chili challenge for GBHH&H « Back to News
Those who are willing to submit their chili recipe to a community taste test are encouraged to enter the 11th Annual Chili Challenge. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 30.

Donita Wolf, director of Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, accepts a check from Brad Brack, president of Bikers of Central Kansas, after last year’s Chili Challenge. The 11th annual event is set for Feb. 20.

The tasting and judging are set for 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Eagles Lodge, 1024 Main, Great Bend. The event is sponsored by Bikers of Central Kansas (BOCK) and all proceeds will be donated to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice (GBHH&H).

“We are encouraging chili chefs to join in the competition,” said Brad Brack, BOCK president. “This is a great way to have some fun and help Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice at the same time.

“This non-profit agency helps our neighbors in Barton and Pawnee county communities through difficult times in life,” Brack added. “We always want to do what we can to support those efforts.”

There is a limit of 20 entries and there is no entry fee. Contestants are asked to bring a roaster full of chili that is heated and ready to serve. Entrants may set up at 3 p.m.; this will allow enough time for those wanting to do a presentation.

The Best Chili Award is $100 and a trophy. Second and third place winners will receive plaques, and the chef with the best presentation will earn the traveling trophy.

Admission is $6 and desserts will be available for an extra dollar.

Donita Wolf, GBHH&H director, said the agency appreciates everyone who participates in this popular annual event.

“We are truly grateful for the amount of time and effort BOCK spends on our behalf,” Wolf said. “The Chili Challenge proceeds help us pay for medications for our hospice patients, which is so important for many families.”

GBHH&H is owned and operated by Central Kansas Medical Center.
